Portable, or laptop, computing has come a long way since the first portable computers were introduced the mid 1970’s. Back then, the IBM 1500 was a state of the computer, even though it weighed around twenty three pounds, didn’t run off of a battery, and had a screen about the size of most calculators.
By the mid-1990’s, the laptop as we know it began sprouting up, but was still something of a novelty. Heavy power packs and short battery life kept the early Apply PowerBooks from being a truly mobile computer.
But mobile computing has made huge strides in the past decade or so. Today’s high end laptops are not much thicker than a manila envelope and have about the same computing power as a room full of NASA computers from the 1970’s. And with modern innovations like solar battery chargers and powerful WiFi cards, geography is no longer an impediment to computing.
In just the past three or four years, the laptop has been challenged for portable computing supremacy by two newcomers, the net book and the smart phone.
Net books are really nothing more than stripped down laptops. These bare bones computers have a long battery life, but might lack the processing power needed for streaming movies, or heavy duty number crunching. But with the advent of “cloud” computing, more and more computer users are storing a large number of their files and applications on remote servers rather than on their actual machine.
An even smaller replacement for the laptop is the smart phone. Today’s high end cellular phones aren’t really suitable for running applications like word processing or spreadsheets, but they can do almost anything else.
Unlike a net book, smart phones are optimized to run video and graphic applications. So while you can’t design a database from a smart phone, you can stream movies and update social media networks on the Internet.
The next generation of mobile computing devices will probably be a hybrid of the previous devices that looks a lot like an Apple iPad. And as portable power technology increases, it’s likely that many of the next generation devices will be powered by some sort of integrated solar powered battery charger that never needs to be plugged in to a wall.
The evolution of portable computing has been advancing rapidly over the past few decades and doesn’t look to be slowing down any time soon. In ten years, today’s cutting edge smart phones will probably look as silly to tomorrow’s children as the first laptop looks to us.

As the national economy has faltered over the past five years, small businesses have been forced to bring a lot of work that used to be contracted back in house. For businesses in this situation, deciding what work can actually be done by staff and what work still needs to be outsourced is a real challenge. The last thing any company wants is a less than professional looking web site.
Fortunately, there are a number of easy to learn web design software suites and online tutorials that can help make your web site look as if it was produced by a professional web design company.
When it comes to off the shelf web design applications, Adobe Dreamweaver is both one of the best known, and the best on the market. Dreamweaver is priced at around $350 and required no previous knowledge of HTML or other programming languages. Using Dreamweaver an HTML novice can put up a basic site can be created in just a couple of days. One of the nice features of this software suite is its use of templates to make updating and maintaining a site very easy.
Another option for site and blog publishing that won’t cost your company anything is WordPress. WordPress is an open source software project that is constantly being improved and updated. All a new user really needs to get started is a web host that supports WordPress. Beyond that, users can stick with the basic set up, or customize the software as much as they need to meet their own needs.
The WordPress user base currently numbers in the hundreds of thousands including everyone from a professional web design companies to the Gawker family of blogs. This is a great option for companies that want to revamp their current sites, without spending a lot of money.
If your company does need to call in an IT professional, consider hiring a freelancer rather than going with a larger firm. Ask friends and families for recommendations and be sure to look at the person’s portfolio before working with them. Most freelancers charge a lot less than the big firms and, usually, provide more personal service.
Doing your own IT work in house is challenging and should only be handled by people at your company that actually want to the work. But if you’ve got an eye for detail and an interest in technology creating your own web site is a great way to cut expenses.

The best example of the use of digital signage and digital signage software can be seen up and down the world-famous strip of Las Vegas, Nevada. Almost every business in this area, whether it is a casino or a Denny’s restaurant, exhibits examples of digital signage and digital signage software. Digital signage and digital signage software is used in items such as LCD and LED displays and plasma displays, and many of these are seen as huge billboards on the outside of buildings in Nevada. This technology was meant to replace traditional billboards and cut out signs, and it is much more exciting and popular. Digital signage and digital signage software provide information and advertising that is interactive, dynamic, creative, and entertaining. The most well-known aspect of Las Vegas is the lighted Vegas strip, and the colorful, exciting, flashing signs and billboards which adorn commercial and corporate buildings would not be possible without digital signage and digital signage software. Clearly, the choice of using digital signage is much more expensive and more intricate than a classic billboard, and these types of signs require technology professionals to ensure that they are working correctly and to provide electronic and technological oversight of their operation.
Digital signage and digital signage software are a sign of the new technological age, and even cities that are not known for their glitz, glamour, and twenty four hour operation (like Las Vegas and New York City) are using this type of software and signage. Almost every major city, such as Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Chicago, and many more, use digital signage and digital signage software to advertise and inform. Some theater and entertainment complexes use digital signage to advertise current movies and shows being played. Other restaurants and event venues use digital signage and digital signage software to display featured menu specials or celebrities in town, offering a special show or performance.
Digital signage and digital signage software can create spectacular visual and sometimes even auditory effects. Examples of this might be broadcast television on a digital billboard, digital photography which changes consistently in the same way a digital photo frame would, or even digital lettering which spells out messages, controlled and programmed by remote. Displays using digital signage and digital signage software can also be smaller, such as in-store screens which advertise current sales or specials, or which highlight promotional campains that are currently running.

Innovative technology has brought us to innovative lighting solutions through Light Emitting Diodes of LEDs. Printed circuit boards or PCBs power the LEDs. These are in turn made from a combination of glass fibers, resin, and cotton in the non-toxic forms. On these bases, the electronic circuits are etched on to the PCBS. This is like a program which will ensure how the components have to work. Different electronic circuits on the led pcb board will perform differently produces different results. Therefore, LEDs with integrally etched electronic circuits on their PCBs can be programmed to emit light. The most common example of LEDs are signages. The core of these boards is the led manufacturing techniques used to create a particular code.
There are several types of LED boards- individual LEDs are very common and today come manufactured as doped wafers of semi-conductors so as to increase light productivity. By varying the impurities in the LED wafer, different wavelength of light are produced.
Led pcb board is finally produced by assembling different LEDs. LED boards have to offer consistent quality and meet the requirements of the country of deployment. Every municipality have their own quality codes and these LED lights have to comply to international standards and perfom consistently.

It was so funny the other night. I was chatting to someone and they started talking about Utah network cabling. They were really impressed when I suddenly could tell them all about what they needed. I think people forget that now I am a mother of young children that I did have a life before-hand. I worked for a Utah data cabling company and remember the sorts of things we used to deal with there. I had a great time doing that job and learnt loads of things about cabling – far more than I think any woman ever needs to know! It did come in useful the other night though. I didn’t know that I had still got the information in my head, but it seemed like I did and it was funny impressing this guy with it. I think he thought that I was such a different type of woman because I knew about this stuff that really only men should be interested in. I must use my knowledge of it as a chat up line more often! Although that might lead to a date talking about cabling and that would be pretty dull and very sad!

My company have just installed some new order management systems and they are fantastic. I must admit that it did take me a while to get to grips with it all – working out how to work the new systems but now, I am used to it, it is so good. The Order processing system is so much quicker and so much more functionality, it makes everybody’s jobs so much easier. We can things done a lot more quickly, there is less paperwork involved and we can all communicate better through the system. Because the work is easier we have more time to attend to aspects of our work that were getting pushed on to the back burner before. This means that we are all more productive and it seems like the company are really befitting as result of that. The e commerce fulfillment is fantastic too. I think that the whole atmosphere in the company has changed, no one is as stressed and people are more chatty and happy and it is all fantastic. It is amazing what a big difference making this small change has made to the whole company. I think that the boss is very pleased that he implemented this big change.

One of the most tedious and difficult tasks of running a business is keeping track of the inventory. If you are in search of an inexpensive way to track your business inventory then you may wish to consider investing in some inventory management software. This type of software makes easy work of inventory control and it is very simple to use and manage.
If you are a wholesaler who must keep track of which items are best sellers and would like to turn customer history into more sales, then warehouse inventory management software is available that will give you the tools you need to streamline your work. Managing a business that involves selling material goods requires constant management of the products coming into and leaving your warehouse but more often than not, many business owners lose track of exactly which items are selling well and which should be dropped from the inventory.
POS software is a system that allows business owners of all sizes to keep tabs of all sales, customers, inventory and orders. Point of Sale software is normally very easy to use and it can handle layaway information deposits, refunds, gift cards and much more so that you can concentrate on other aspects of your business.
